Elaine L. Chao, President Trump’s Nominee to serve as Secretary for the U.S. Department of Transportation quickly moved through the Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation committee Tuesday afternoon. Although the Senate has yet to schedule a vote on Chao’s nomination, indications from Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, are there will be little opposition on President Trump’s nominee.
“OmniAir members should be encouraged by the opening remarks of Chao regarding emerging technologies,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium.
Chao stated that transportation is the underpinning of the greatest economy in the world. She went on to say that these gains are at risk because of transportation’s aging infrastructure, fatalities on highways, and failure to keep up with emerging technologies.
As part of a Federal Highway Administration-funded project, OmniAir is leading device testing for National Toll Interoperability. OmniAir Consortium is also participating in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Next Generation Certification Program for Connected Vehicles and our efforts will reinforce the incoming transportation leader’s position on staying on top of emerging technologies.
